Synopsis

Set in 1922 Long Island, the story follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a humble cottage next to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby. Intrigued by Gatsby's extravagant parties and mysterious persona, Nick discovers Gatsby's obsessive quest to reunite with his former love, Daisy Buchanan, now married to the affluent but unfaithful Tom. The story dives into unrealistic dreams amidst societal pressures. Through soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical weaves a story of passion, deception and unavoidable demise.

The Production

This outstanding show is put together by a talented team led by Ryan McCartan as the charming Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the clever Jordan Baker, Austin Colby as the overbearing Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the beaten-down George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic movement by Dominique Kelley and an unique score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 masterpiece, "The Great Gatsby" debuted at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway debut in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. This version respects the book's heritage while incorporating a modern musical flair, marking the first major Broadway production of the story. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, celebrating its lavish 1920s styles.
